Marking the official start of the campaign period for senatorial and party-list candidates in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, the Makabayan Coalition-Panay kicked off its campaign with “Byaheng Makabayan,” a send-off caravan from Jaro Plaza to the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
The coalition introduced its senatorial slate of 11 candidates and four party-list groups, including Kabataan Party-list, Bayan Muna, ACT Teachers Party-list, and Gabriela Women’s Party. Similar caravans were also held in Capiz and Aklan.
In addition to the four current party-list groups of Makabayan, the coalition is also campaigning for the Health Workers Party-list.
“Our campaign is centered on fighting for the rights of marginalized sectors—workers, teachers, youth, and women,” said Irma Espinosa, Bayan Muna Party-list 7th Nominee.
“We are bringing our platforms directly to the people, ensuring that their demands are heard in Congress,” Espinosa added.
“Since then, Kabataan Party-list has been championing the voice of the youth in communities, schools, workplaces, and especially in Congress,” said Crimson Labinghisa, Kabataan Party-list 9th Nominee.
As part of their grassroots efforts, volunteers from different sectors and groups conducted rekoridas, flyering, and house-to-house campaigns in local communities after the send-off caravan to spread their candidates’ people-centered advocacies.
With the 2025 midterm elections just three months away, the battle for Senate and party-list seats is expected to intensify as candidates continue their nationwide campaigns./PT
