WVSU CAT 2024 SETS RECORD WITH MORE THAN 20K ENTRANCE EXAM TAKERS; STUDENTS CALL FOR GREATER BUDGET TO EDUCATION AMID TEST LEAKAGE

ILOILO CITY – More than 20,000 senior high school students from various parts of the country headed to the West Visayas State University (WVSU) last March 10 in hopes of passing the historic WVSU College Admission Test and to benefit from the free education.

Of the 20,925 examinees, 11,600 applicants took the exam on the Main Campus, while 9,325 applicants took the exam on WVSU’s satellite campuses. This year’s number of CAT takers beat last year’s record of around 18,000 applicants.

Despite the historic number of entrance exam takers, the university’s budget has not been increased to accommodate more young people who hope to get a free and quality education.

A few days after the end of the WVSU CAT, the university invalidated the exam results due to confirmed test leakage and that thousands of applicants must retake the exam. According to Anakbayan WVSU, the incident only shows the desperation of the youth for a free and quality education. That is why they call for a greater budget for education so that more students can enjoy free and quality education.

In the General Appropriations Act of 2024, WVSU is one of the state-owned universities with the biggest budget cut in the country this year./PT
