ILOILO City – Four hundred sixty-four heroes and martyrs of the people’s struggle were remembered during Saturday’s Luksang Bayan organized by Mothers and Relatives Against Tyranny or MARTYR.
Attended by families and friends, a mass, together with flowers and songs were offered to the heroes and martyrs at the Monument for Heroes and Martyrs in the Struggle of the Filipino People at Plaza Libertad of this city.
“This yearly activity is held to commemorate the lives and struggles of the heroes and martyrs that serves as inspiration to us, their families, friends and the Filipino people to continue and further advance the people’s struggle they had started,” Martyr spokersperson Alma Sumague said, whose husband was killed by state forces during martial law.
Majority of the heroes and martyrs are indigenous peoples Tumandok and farmers who struggled against state dictatorship during Martial law.
