By ILOILO – Last February 27, the Iloilo Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved as “legal and valid” the Resolution 2024-09 of the Sangguniang Bayan of Barotac Viejo to endorse House Bill No. 406. The resolution resulted from the petition filed by Barotac Viejo fisherfolk and farmers for 15k aid.
HB 406 was filed by the Makabayan Bloc on June 30, 2022. The bill aims to provide a P15,000 production subsidy for farmers and fisherfolks affected by the increasing cost of farm inputs, rising fuel prices, economic downturn, and calamities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Melbert Balbon, Spokesperson of PAMALAKAYA – Panay, the fisherfolks and farmers support HB 406 because it will benefit those who suffer more from poverty and hunger, which is being worsened by disasters.
PAMALAKAYA calls to support HB 406 of the Makabayan Bloc until it becomes a law.//PT
