FAMILY, FRIENDS, COMRADES OF JORY PORQUIA COMMEMORATE HIS 4TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY; CALL FOR JUSTICE CONTINUES

ILOILO CITY – Family, friends, and comrades of Jory Porquia commemorate his 4th death anniversary in Iloilo City. A mass was held earlier this afternoon, followed by a lightning protest in Bonifacio Shrine to demand justice for Porquia’s death.

Jory Porquia was the Coordinator of BAYAN Muna Partylist in Iloilo City. Before being killed, Proquia, together with other progressive organizations, started the Community Kitchen, a feeding program initiative for the urban poor communities affected by COVID-19 lockdowns in Iloilo City.

On April 30, 2020, Porquia was killed in Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo, Iloilo City. A week before the incident, Porquia was harassed by the Molo PNP for conducting feeding programs and relief operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Locals reported that police forces were looking for him and spread rumors that the food being served contained a virus.

Four years had passed but the family and comrades of Porquia still call for justice for his death. To them, terror tagging and attacks on activists and critics of the government, which Porquia was a victim of before his death, continue to worsen under the current Marcos Jr. administration. That is why apart from demanding justice for Porquia’s death, his family and comrades also call to stop terror tagging and other forms of human rights violations that target activists and marginalized people.//PT
